Pausanias records that, in Sparta, Aphrodite was worshipped as Aphrodite Areia , which means "warlike". Venus, Cupid, Folly and Time c. In the most famous story, Zeus hastily married Aphrodite to Hephaestus in order to prevent the other gods from fighting over her. Aphrodite took on Inanna-Ishtar's associations with sexuality and procreation.
