Time heals all wounds, they say, but heartbreak is a wound deeper than most. Emotions can range from profound sadness to intense anger to utter emptiness in the course of a single day, which is exhausting. Having to face the person you loved at school or elsewhere can be excruciating and draining.
Many of us have looked for love in all the wrong places. We have dating apps, deal breakers, love languages, fear of missing out, date-night appointments, long-distance relationships, ghosting, emotional unavailability, conflict issues, couples counseling, fierce independence and co-dependence, not to mention record divorce rates and identity and political divides. This selection of poems show the less idealistic side of love.
If you've just had a break-up and are feeling down, you're not alone. Just about everyone experiences a break-up at some point, and many then have to deal with heartbreak — a wave of grief, anger, confusion, low self-esteem, and maybe even jealousy all at once. Lots of things can cause heartbreak. Some people might have had a romantic relationship that ended before they were ready.

The little things are what make teenage love so special. Things like hanging out at the mall, wandering around with no place to be, listening to music together, and texting each other all night, so late that you fall asleep with your phone in your hand and can barely stay awake in class the next day. It's the thrill and uncertainty that comes with not knowing how long your relationship will last or if it is really true love.
